You're really going to enjoy these books! Have fun understanding how children learn. Punished by Rewards was a life changer for me! Keep me posted and let me know how you liked the books.
When you involve children into the learning process, such as letting them in on what they are going to learn and respecting what they don't want to learn at any given time, it builds intrinsic motivation. Meaning the reward is the personal satisfaction of learning something new that interests them, in itself. This way they are truly learning instead of going through the hoops just for the reward.
Thanks for the comment, Courtney and hope that answered some of it. I actually have another post on this topic in further detail titled, Punishments and Rewards. Alfie Kohn has an amazing book titled Punished by Rewards. A must read if wanted to know more on how children learn…very eye opening!

So how do we motivate them to want to learn without outside reward?
